🎼 An evening of music, history and emotion in the heart of the Born
Next November 21 Friday of 2025, the majestic Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar Barcelona will become the stage for a unique musical experience: the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by more than 150 voices from the Catalunya Canta choir and Catalan Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of the teacher Enric Gavaldà García.
This concert not only celebrates one of the most moving works in the history of classical music, but also connects with the community and solidarity spirit that defines both the basilica and the participating groups.
🕯️ The mystery of the Requiem
Composed in 1791, the Requiem was the last commission Mozart received before his death. Legend has it that it was requested by a mysterious messenger dressed in black, leading the composer to believe he was writing his own funeral mass. Although Mozart did not manage to finish it, his pupil Franz Xaver Süssmayr completed the work, which is now considered one of the most powerful in the sacred repertoire.
🏛️ A gothic setting for an eternal work
The choice of Santa Maria del MarThe fact that it's a jewel of Catalan Gothic architecture is no coincidence. Its sober and enveloping architecture amplifies the solemnity of the Requiem, creating a dialogue between music and history that promises to move all attendees.
